The newly tapped head of telecom-gear maker Ericsson insisted his company can sprint away from its rivals even in the face of an industry recession, he told the Financial Times. Hans Vestberg, who will take over as chief executive early next year, said, "Ericsson believes that telecoms is a growth industry. ... We definitely should be able to grow faster than the market." Vestberg predicted global mobile-phone use will leap from 4.5 billion to 7 billion by the end of 2011.
