Experts weigh in on bird-strike prevention

From new technology to common-sense procedures, the aviation industry can do more to prevent bird strikes, experts say. Among the recommendations: more specific pilot training, stronger aircraft surfaces and steeper ascents or descents at slower speeds. Avian radar also is being tested at some airports, though experts are not agreed on how air-traffic controllers should use the information gleaned from such technology.
