House committee hears pros and cons of online gambling

Supporters and critics of online gambling testified before a House Financial Services Committee hearing last week. The head of the committee, Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., may seek to overturn a 2006 ban on Internet gambling in the U.S. "Combining a thoughtful regulatory scheme with education, technology tools, and support appears to be the most effective means of handling the realities and risks of online gambling," said Malcolm Sparrow, a professor at Harvard University.
