Virginia DOT puts $1.1 billion in highway funds to work

Virginia's Department of Transportation has advertised $1.1 billion in road work and maintenance projects since the start of the fiscal year in July. The funds come from a stash of $1.45 billion that "turned up" in an independent audit of the state transportation agency. For every $100 million spent on highway maintenance, 3,000 jobs are created, according to Gov. Bob McDonnell.
