Amtrak's Acela was designed for speeds of up to 125 mph, but a lack of upgrades to its rail infrastructure keeps speeds down, according to Pierre Beaudoin, CEO of Bombardier, the company that makes Amtrak's high-speed train. He suggests investing in more underpasses and signaling equipment. "The realities of population in the U.S. are that there’s not that many corridors to justify this kind of [HSR] stuff. So let’s focus on the infrastructure," he said.
