Cash-strapped consumers are still finding ways to shop

Shoppers spent about $400 apiece during Black Friday weekend, up from $365 last year, according to early figures from NRF. Consumers are shopping again, but the shift doesn't mean they're feeling better about the economy; rather, pent-up demand and frugality fatigue have them finding ways to cut back in some areas so they can spend on shopping, says psychologist Kit Yarrow.
