Commentary: CFPB needs to strike the right balance

David Hirschmann, head of the Center for Capital Markets Competitiveness at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, acknowledges that there is a need for improving consumer protections. However, he argues that access to affordable credit is important to the economy. "Striking the right balance requires regulatory restraint and strong oversight," Hirschmann writes. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, however lacks the normal checks and balances.
