Kroger reacts to earnings report, gas prices

While Kroger's third-quarter profits and sales were up, profits fell short of estimates -- a problem the grocery chain partially blames on higher gas prices. "Kroger is the best-managed company in the grocery industry," one analyst said. "They're doing everything right, but they're not able to overcome the headwinds that are out there." Kroger CEO David B. Dillon said the company would invest its gains from cost-cutting into lowering prices for customers.
