More seniors consider public colleges as application deadlines near

Some high-school seniors are scaling back their college dreams as declines in the stock market have cut into many parents' college savings. "It is the most uncertain college admission year we have had in a very long time," said Terry Hartle, senior vice president of the higher-education group, American Council on Education. "I think it's a very worried and troublesome time."
