Gardeners can take a variety of steps to protect their gardens during the chilly winter months, writes Suzanne Mahler. Oil sprays can stop the spread of harmful winter moths and lightly pruning roses will reduce damage from winter winds, she notes. She advises gardeners with fish ponds to remove tender annual plants after a frost to prevent the formation of gasses that may harm the fish.
