What do users know about online privacy?

Ad trade groups and top search engine Google view the public as being informed about online practices and able to decide whether they want to opt in, while consumer advocates say most users don't understand how such practices as ad targeting really work, according to comments at a round-table discussion on privacy and technology organized by the FTC in Washington, D.C.
