American Airlines will continue with direct-connect program

The bankruptcy filing by parent company AMR Corp. will not deter American Airlines from changing its direct-connect distribution program, an airline representative says. "As we have said before, direct connect is not only less expensive, it provides a more flexible and capable platform for distributing our product to our customers via our travel agent partners," the representative said. The announcement did not surprise many observers, who expected the airline to push forward with the program despite legal disputes with GDS providers over negotiations.
