Notifications help boost post-discharge awareness among doctors

A study in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association found that 76% of physicians who received automated e-mail notifications with test results were aware of their patients' outcomes post-discharge, compared with 38% in the control group. The findings suggest that post-discharge notifications may help prevent potential patient safety hazards related to overlooked test results.
