A better real-time search? Twitter.

Google is undeniably massive and powerful, but its reliance on factors such as link popularity in determining the standing of a page in search results can prevent the newest content from bubbling up to the top. Google News puts a premium on newness, but it only indexes select sources. As blogger Bernard Lunn discovered trying to locate information on a Gmail outage, Twitter's search function can be very useful for up-to-the-second information.
