Manipulated cord blood cells may speed up transplant engraftment

U.S. researchers report that cord blood stem cells expanded in an investigational lab procedure enabled faster transplant engraftment. The expansion procedure has yielded promising results in an ongoing clinical trial involving leukemia patients and could potentially "revolutionize cord blood transplantation," one of the researchers said.
