Algae companies look at nonfuel uses for cellulosic ethanol research

Some algae companies are starting to explore nonfuel products such as chemicals and food additives because they are more profitable than developing alternative fuels, according to Greentech Media, which made a list of top 10 emerging trends from 2009. Among the algae companies involved in nonfuel products is Solazyme, which produced an algae-based substitute for almond milk and is marketing oil to the food industry.
