Amendments could reshape financial regulatory overhaul

Lawmakers have drafted hundreds of amendments they would like to see included in the overhaul of financial regulation. Rep. Walt Minnick, D-Idaho, introduced an amendment that would forgo the Consumer Financial Protection Agency and instead develop a council of existing regulators focused on consumer protection. Rep. Melissa Bean, D-Ill., is seeking to restrict state officials' ability to implement regulations that are stricter than federal rules.
