IATA raises concerns with proposal to accredit "sub-agents"

The International Air Transport Association is considering identifying and accrediting "sub-agents," a term that is believed to cover hosted travel agencies and outside sales agents. ARTA Canada President Bruce Bishins is raising questions about the proposal. "While the proposal is in an embryonic stage, the concerns are mounting quickly, particularly because IATA/BSP agencies are concerned as to who will be considered a sub-agent, why IATA should be allowed access to and identification of an agency's marketing partners, and the fees which will clearly be exacted if these entities are forced to register with IATA," Bishins said.
