U.S. companies reluctant to hire, announce job openings

Job losses are slowing, but U.S. employers still are not hiring much or announcing job openings. The U.S. Labor Department's Job Openings and Labor Turnover survey found that companies posted 2.5 million jobs on the final day of October, fewer than September's 2.6 million. For every job opening in October, there were about 6.3 jobless people, according to Labor Department data.
