Would academic freedom offer more benefits than gifted education?

Education columnist Jay Mathews writes in this blog post that officials seeking an overhaul of gifted education in the Washington, D.C., area should be mindful of the story of one of the region's own -- investment guru Warren Buffett, who wanted to drop out of school. Students such as Buffett who are undoubtedly gifted might be better off if given more freedom to explore their own academic interests, Mathews writes.
