Decline in jobless claims signals improved labor market

Initial jobless claims in the U.S. decreased 17,000 last week, bringing the total seasonally adjusted rate to 421,000, the Labor Department said. The four-week rolling average was down 4,000. "This decline was in line with expectations and points to improvement in the labor market since earlier in the year," said Andrew Gledhill of Moody's Analytics.
