Senate Republicans block CFPB nominee

Republicans in the Senate have blocked the confirmation of Richard Cordray, President Barack Obama's nominee to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Without a confirmed director, the bureau cannot exercise many of its powers. The White House hasn't ruled out the use of a recess appointment for Cordray.
