The death of gamification as a business strategy has been highly exaggerated, Rajat Paharia writes, arguing against a Gartner prediction that 80% of gamified applications will not meet their business objectives by 2014. Many thoughtless, poorly designed and copycat gamification strategies will fail, but the basic concept of treating user activity as a motivator will survive as digital activity increases, Generation Y takes over and businesses see even more need to stand out in a crowd.
