Is radial the way of the future?

Radial-access PCI resulted in lower rates of vascular complications in patients with STEMI and other acute coronary syndromes, especially when performed by experienced operators in high-volume centers, according to studies published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. The data indicate radial PCI is at least as safe as femoral and may reduce the risk of mortality, said SCAI fellow Dr. Robert J. Applegate, who also suggested the time has come for the radial approach to become the preferred route for primary PCI.
