NBPTS-certified teacher bonuses could be cut in South Carolina

A state committee in South Carolina, which ranks third nationally in the number of National Board Certified Teachers, has said that that a $7,500 annual bonus given to teachers who earn the distinction could be cut for future NBCTs as the state faces a budget shortfall. The state has about 6,500 NBPTS certified teachers, and some said that eliminating the bonuses would affect teacher recruitment and retention.
