Scientists identify protein linked to bowel disorders

Researchers at the University of Edinburgh found that defects in the GLI1 protein, which helps develop a fetus' digestive system, may play a role in causing Crohn's, ulcerative colitis and other inflammatory bowel diseases. The group hopes to study whether bolstering the flawed protein could treat patients with such disorders.
