Cell phone tones could unlock guestrooms with new key technology

Hotel guests could be using their own cell phones to unlock their guestroom doors as soon as next year as new technology emerges. A system called Crypto Acoustic Credentials, from Paris-based OpenWays, generates a unique series of tones that, when played on the phone outside the room, unlocks the door, and its makers say that for guests who don't carry mobile devices, the system could be backed up by a conventional key card system.
