Telecoms to feds: Ditch ban on stimulus-funded asset sales

The Commerce Department agencies overseeing the second round of awarding broadband-stimulus funds should relax the current restriction that bans telecoms from selling assets for 10 years that they gained from their grant proceeds, the companies said in their latest comments to the agencies. "It is unreasonable to expect a private-sector entity to foresee every possible merger, divestiture or asset sale opportunity that may present itself" over 10 years," Qwest Communications wrote in its filing.
