Workers' comp drug costs jump by 7.5%, survey finds

Overuse of medications as well as prescribing patterns of physicians have spurred a 7.5% increase in workers' compensation drug costs, according to a survey by Health Strategy Associates. Workers' compensation payers are making additional investments in analytics, and pursuing step therapy and stronger clinical management of pharmacy to hurdle the rising costs, the survey found.
