Data from EHRs hold promise for diabetes detection, classification

EHR data show promise in finding and classifying more diabetes cases, compared with ICD-9 claim codes alone, according to a study in Diabetes Care. Researchers found that all of the subjects with type 1 diabetes were identified with the use of an optimized algorithm, which integrated the ratio of type 1 and 2 codes with recommended prescriptions as well as autoantibody and plasma C-peptide levels data.
