Following a decade of development, IBM says it is ready to bring to market new chips based on "silicon nanophotonic" technology that can carry data between servers at rates exceeding 25 Gbps. The advanced technology -- which relies on light waves running parallel to electric pulses -- is being incorporated into Big Blue's 90nm CMOS fabrication process to produce components including wavelength division multiplexers, detectors and modulators.
