Nurse-midwife to open birth center near St. Louis

Certified nurse-midwife Jessica Henman plans to open a birth center in O'Fallon, Mo., that would be the first such facility in the St. Louis area. Missouri regulates birth centers as ambulatory surgical centers, so Henman, along with another nurse-midwife who runs an unlicensed facility in Independence, are advocating regulations similar to those proposed by the American Association of Birth Centers and other groups.
