Better prevention of electrical outages and responses to power failures will be top of the 2013 agenda for utilities in the wake of June's derecho storm in the Eastern U.S. and Superstorm Sandy in October, Cheryl Kaften writes. "[U]tilities that have invested in smart meters and smart grid technology will move to the next phase, investing more time and dollars in outage response, security, business efficiency and customer engagement," Jill Feblowitz of IDC Energy Insights said.
