U.S. Treasury sells its last shares of AIG

The Treasury Department has sold its remaining 15.9% equity stake in American International Group, ending its ownership in the company. The transaction closes the books on one of the largest and most fiercely criticized bailouts of the financial crisis. Taxpayers have gained about $22.7 billion on the AIG rescue program, after the latest sale.
