Early statin therapy linked to lower cardiovascular risk in familial hypercholesterolemia

None of the 214 Dutch patients with familial hypercholesterolemia who started taking statins between 8 to 18 years of age had a cardiovascular episode by age 30, according to a study presented at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions. On the other hand, the cardiovascular event rate for their affected parents, who did not receive statins as children, was 7% by age 30.
