Even if lawmakers agree on a compromise to ease some of the sequestration's pain next year, the automatic spending cuts will still present a serious challenge for defense chiefs, experts say. A compromise would avert less than half of the $109 billion in sequestration cuts and Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel has warned the cuts will eat into military readiness.
