Federated testing TV ads to capture upscale market

Federated Department Stores is testing whether a shift in television advertising from newspaper print ads will lure a more upscale and lucrative customer. The test ads, shown during prime-time network television, will run in the fourth quarter in Atlanta, Boston and San Diego and, if successful, will roll out nationwide by mid-2004.
