Antiviral amantadine may be effective in treating bird flu

A top Chinese scientist said the antiviral amantadine, largely ignored because it was believed the avian bird flu virus had grown resistant to it, may be effective in treating avian flu in humans after all, although more data is needed. The scientist also said the virus is stable in China and is not mutating toward a form that could be transmitted easily between humans.
