U.S. urged to unify disparate Web properties

Google CEO Eric Schmidt is asking the U.S. government to unify and render searchable its fragmented array of Web sites. In a presentation at the New America Foundation, Schmidt -- who advises President-elect Barack Obama on technology issues -- said, "The vast majority of information is still not searchable or findable either because it's not published or it's on Web sites which the government has put up which no one can index."
