Automakers finally get social networks

Though car companies are a major advertiser in every other medium, they have been slow to embrace the "freeform" world of social networks, Matthew DeBord writes. But that's changing: GM is launching the Chevy Volt, an electric car, through Facebook -- where fans can be educated about how the new technology works. "We can easily correct misunderstandings," says Volt Communications Manager Dave Darowvitz.
