Gowalla turns location-based network into game

Gowalla is a location-based mobile social network that operates more like a game, offering a scavenger hunt that encourages people to check in at certain locations. "Historically, location-based services have struggled with creating an incentive for getting people to share their location," says Josh Williams, co-founder of the network's parent company, explaining that the game gives people a reason to share where they are with friends.
