Stowe represents the idyllic Vermont ski town, complete with covered bridges, church steeples and a pleasant lack of chain stores. Stowe's ski resort is owned by American International Group, which recently received state aid from the federal government. The situation may explain why the resort is now home to a new gondola, pedestrian village and other amenities. Still, Stowe remains a quaint town, which at this time of year attracts a range of winter enthusiasts.
