Fewer type 1 diabetes patients suffer from severe retinopathy

Only 18% of type 1 diabetes patients who were examined from 2007 to 2011 had vision-threatening levels of diabetic retinopathy, compared with 43% of those assessed from 1980 to 1996, researchers reported in Diabetes Care. Researchers said the improvements may be a result of advances in diabetes therapies and blood sugar control.
