Patients who have realistic expectations for the results of dermatologic surgery are more likely to be satisfied, and dermatologists can help patients zero in on what they want to achieve, says dermatologist Howard K. Steinman. The mnemonic AIDET can help, Steinman says: Acknowledge the patient, introduce yourself, tell the patient how long the procedure will take (duration), explain all steps of the procedure and thank the patient for his or her trust and patience.
