Railroads continue to move oil in record amounts

Pipeline networks in North Dakota and Texas are still unable to handle those states' rapidly increasing oil production. Railroads, including BNSF, have stepped up to provide service in North Dakota, where crude-by-rail shipments will continue "for at least the next three to five years," said Andy Lipow, Lipow Oil Associates president. Class I's are projected to transport more than 200,000 petroleum shipments this year, according to the Association of American Railroads.
