Retailers fail in early attempt to appeal settlement of credit card case

An appeals court has deferred an appeal in a case alleging price fixing involving credit card companies until the proposed $7.25 billion settlement is given final approval. The case is based on allegations that the card companies and banks worked together to fix the "swipe" fees that retailers pay. The retailers that oppose the agreement are worried that the deal would prevent them from suing in the future.
