Malaria prevention is saving lives, WHO reports

Since 2000, malaria death rates have been cut by 45% overall and by half among children younger than 5, according to the World Health Organization's World Malaria Report 2013. The large majority of the 3.3 million lives saved from 2000 to 2012 were in the 10 countries with the highest malaria burden and among young children. The report calls for sustained financing of prevention efforts to continue the fight against the deadly disease.
