Preemie survivors face long-term challenges

The number of premature babies surged to record levels last year, with survival rates for those in top neonatal centers now at 70%, up from about 30% three decades ago. Recent research suggests that babies born even just a week or two early may be at higher risk for learning disabilities than are those born at term.
