Bahrain uses precast blockwork to build maintenance-free quay wall

The use of precast concrete blocks to repair a quay wall in Bahrain means that it will require minimal maintenance and should last for a long time. Precast concrete is better than cast-in-place due to the attainable quality-control feature, writes Gerhard Hope. "The units are constructed in the dry under controlled conditions using structural-reinforced concrete.," said Syd Bell from Royal Haskoning in Bahrain. "A high degree of quality can therefore be attained, which ensures that the desired design life is achieved without specific protection methods."
