ONC announces reduced optionality for HIE standards

Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT official Dr. Doug Fridsma announced that the standards for the electronic exchange of health data will not be optional. "Reducing optionality improves interoperability and lowers the cost for vendors to implement, thus lowering the cost for health care providers as well," Fridsma said in a blog post.
